Spring Semester 2019 Catalog

Precision Manufacturing and Machining, Diploma

Overview

Offered at the Augusta campus

Entrance Dates: Fall, Spring, and Summer
Length of Program: Three Terms
Credit Hours Required for Graduation: 48

Program Description: The Precision Manufacturing and Machining Diploma program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the machine tool technology field. Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of machine tool theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive a Precision Manufacturing and Machining Degree/Diploma and have the qualification of a machine tool technician

Employment Opportunities: Machinists use machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce precision metal parts. Although they may produce large quantities of one part, precision machinists often produce small batches or one-of-a-kind items. They use their knowledge of the working properties of metals and their skill with machine tools to plan and carry out the operations needed to make products that meet precise specifications. The parts that machinists make range from bolts to automobile pistons.
