Program Description: The Mechanical Engineering Technology program consists of a planned sequence of carefully developed college-level courses designed to prepare students to work in the field of mechanical engineering technology. Graduates will receive an associate degree with a major in Mechanical Engineering Technology with emphasis in manufacturing and design. The program of study requires the application of scientific, mathematical, and engineering knowledge and methods combined with the technical skills required for the support of engineering activities. High school graduation or GED is required for admission to this program.

Program Objectives: Graduates of the program will:

  • Obtain technical positions and work competently in professional careers related to the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Have the skills and abilities to make a seamless transfer or advancement to higher level mechanical engineering or related educational programs, and are well prepared for professional growth and upward mobility.
  • Be able to perform as team players, communicate and work well with others including those from diverse cultures, and practice ethical behaviors in the workplace.

Employment Opportunities: The increasing complexity of modern technology results in an increased demand for engineering technicians. Graduates will work with engineers and scientists in developing, manufacturing, distributing, and marketing new technically advanced designs and other world-class quality products in a global market. To successfully compete in this market requires all engineering technology graduates to be thoroughly knowledgeable of and skilled in computer-aided technologies such as computer aided design, and manufacturing.

The program faculty and constituencies have established program educational objectives consistent with the institutional mission; and student outcomes to assess the effectiveness of the program.

Program Educational Objectives: Program educational objectives are broad statements that are used to describe career and professional accomplishments that the Mechanical Engineering Technology program is preparing graduates to achieve during the first few years of graduation. The objectives are broad, but imply employment in the area served by Augusta Technical College, as an engineering technician or technologist at the two-year associate degree level. This is consistent with the mission of the college.

Graduates of the program will:

Each student of the  Mechanical Engineering Technology program will demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Acquire the ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to mechanical engineering technology careers.
  •  Acquire the ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, and processes appropriate to mechanical engineering technology careers.
  • Acquire the ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate literature in the field of mechanical engineering technology.
  • Acquire the ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments; and to analyze and interpret the results.
  • Acquire the ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team.
