RNSG 1299 LPN TO RN TRANSITION TO PROFESSIONAL NURSING

This course is designed to initiate the transition process from LPN to RN and build upon previously learned basic knowledge and skills. The nursing process and concepts of holistic care, transcultural nursing, critical thinking, basic human needs, psychosocial needs, growth and development, legal/ethical issues, pharmacological principles, therapeutic interventions and communication skills are emphasized. Content presented includes the transition process; the nursing process; nursing care of individuals experiencing acute and chronic alterations in health related to respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, reproductive systems, oncology, fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance. End of life and palliative care will be addressed in relation to individuals with chronic and terminal alterations in health. The following concepts will be integrated into this course: physiological integrity; psychosocial integrity; nutrition; pharmacological; gerontology; and health assessments related to the problems under study. Clinical learning experiences will include rotations on medical-surgical units in acute care.
