Entrance Dates: Spring
Length of Program: Two Terms
Credit Hours Required for Graduation: 16

Program Description: The Microsoft Office Applications Professional certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills to perform word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in an office environment. It is designed to provide hands-on instruction for developing foundation skills for office assistant careers as well as to prepare students for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification. Graduates of the program receive a Microsoft Office Applications Professional Technical Certificate of Credit.

Employment Opportunities: Graduates of this program find employment as administrative and executive office professionals in government, business, medical, legal, educational, and technical areas. With the ongoing expansion of business in the CSRA, there is a continual need for highly skilled administrative professionals and executive support personnel. Microsoft Office Applications  Professionals create/prepare electronic documents using Microsoft Word software, create/edit spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel software, manage databases using Microsoft Access, create/edit publications using Microsoft Publisher, and create/edit presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. Careers as a Microsoft Office Applications Professional are increasingly available throughout many industries. These positions are not limited to large or mid-sized companies. In addition to larger organizations, small organizations need specialists to create/prepare documents and spreadsheets and manage databases. Employment of information processing workers is expected to decline moderately. Improved technologies and greater social acceptance of workers performing their own data entry and information processing work will lessen the need for these workers, except for highly detailed  or sophisticated work. As per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for the Microsoft Office Specialist MOS is expected to see a 3% growth in opportunities in the next five years.
