Firefighter II, Technical Certificate of Credit

Program Description: The Firefighter II Technical Certificate of Credit program is conducted in cooperation with the Georgia Fire Academy and Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training to ensure graduates have the skills, knowledge and credentials to serve as firefighters in paid and volunteer fire departments. The certificate builds upon skills and knowledge acquired in the Firefighter I certificate and parallels the Advanced Firefighter Curriculum being developed by the Georgia Fire Academy. Students must be a graduate of Firefighter I Technical Certificate of Credit or NPQ Firefighter I Certified. Program graduates receive a Firefighter II Technical Certificate of Credit. Note: Candidate must be certified at the state basic Firefighter I level to be eligible for NPQ Firefighter II certification.

Employment Opportunities: The Firefighter II Technical Certificate of Credit program is conducted in cooperation with the Georgia Fire Academy and Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training to ensure graduates have the skills, knowledge and credentials to serve as firefighters in paid and volunteer fire departments. Graduates will be tested and certified at the National Professional Qualifications level. Program graduates receive a Firefighter I Technical Certificate of Credit.

Program offered based on employment demands and in collaboration with local business and industry training. Students must already be employed with a fire department.

Notes:

  • A grade of “C” or higher is required for all courses.
  • A student who does not earn a grade of “C” or higher in any two courses with the prefix FRSC will be suspended from the program for one year. Before re-entering the program, the student must complete an individualized remedial program assigned by the department head. After the third unsuccessful attempt of any courses with the FSC prefix, the student will not be allowed to re-enter the Firefighter II program.
  • Students must be eighteen (18) years of age and satisfy NFPA 1582, Standard on medical requirements for Firefighters, or provide a physicians release to participate. All candidates should be in excellent physical condition. Additional physical fitness requirements may be added based on any revisions or updates to NFPA guidelines and standards or actions otherwise directed by the Georgia Standards and Training office. Students will be expected to rent or purchase all turn out gear necessary to the completion of the course.
  • Conviction of a felony or gross misdemeanor may prohibit employment in field and may make a student ineligible to take licensing/certification exam(s) required for the profession. A background check and/or drug screen may be required by some agencies before a student attends a clinical practicum. For more information, contact, the appropriate advisor.
