Program Description: The Advanced Pharmacy Technology Certificate is designed to provide an individual with the entry level skills for success in a retail pharmacy and hospital settings. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skill required as a retail or hospital Pharmacy Technician. Graduates are prepared to function and perform basic skills expected for a retail or hospital Pharmacy Technician. Skills will include gathering, preparing, inputting, performing sterile manipulations and other requirements according to a prescription or medication order under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
Employment Opportunities: The Advanced Pharmacy Technician will assist a Licensed Pharmacist with gathering/collecting patient information, inputting and processing prescription information, providing customer service, performing sterile manipulations and other administrative duties within a retail or hospital pharmacy. Advanced Pharmacy Technicians practicing in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting(s) are also responsible for counting, preparing, performing sterile manipulations, and labeling various medications utilizing basic pharmacy counting methods, sterile compounding techniques and utilizing appropriate technology if available.
Credentialing (Required): Program graduates are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam which is given by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
