Program Description: The Basic Pharmacy Technology Certificate is designed to provide an individual with the entry level skills for success in a retail pharmacy setting. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skill required as a retail Pharmacy Technician. Graduates are prepared to function and perform basic skills expected for a retail Pharmacy Technician. Skills will include gathering, preparing, inputting, and other requirements according to a prescription under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
Employment Opportunities: The Basic Pharmacy Technician will assist a Licensed Pharmacist with gathering/collecting patient information, inputting and processing prescription information, providing customer service, and other administrative duties within a retail pharmacy. Basic Pharmacy Technicians practicing in a retail pharmacy setting are also responsible of counting, preparing, and labeling various medications utilizing basic pharmacy counting methods and technology if available.
Credentialing (Required): Program graduates are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam which is given by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
